UNPLUGGED: AN OFF-GRID WEEKEND
We initially met Hector and Ben, the Londoners behind Unplugged, last Summer when they launched their first Digital Detox cabin in Cambridgeshire (You can read all about the Unplugged concept and our stay in the original cabin here). The boys kept busy during the latest lockdown with plans for a second offering to their off-grid experience and managed to launch this April. After such a great first stay we were excited to be invited back to check out, or rather 'check-in' at, the new site.
The latest release for Unplugged is a duo of cabins nestled in the West Sussex countryside. "Gruff" and "Basil" are positioned far enough apart to afford privacy but close enough if you want to make your detox a little more social with 2 other friends (you can’t see the other cabin unless you walk outside and far into the field). The newest additions also have a little more internal space than the first site and we found the layout to be more practical too; more room to hide away your luggage and a bigger dining space.
The second location might have a slightly different look but the concept remains the same, 3 night tech-free stays for the weary city dweller to 'unplug' and recharge in nature. Cue relaxation. We called 'Basil' home for the 3 nights and as with the first cabin, there is no wifi and a lock box is provided so you can seal away your phones for a notification-free stay. If you get tired of the views and walks (not likely) there is also stash of analogue entertainment in the form of boardgames. Plus a couple of detox-appropriate books and a radio with a mix of old school music tapes. You can also take advantage of the well-marked trails and visit the local pub or the newly opened Kinsbrook Winery, where you can visit the local farm shop for supplies.
We really enjoyed the weather we got during our stay - half the days were rainy and cosy, which meant we got to take advantage of the wood burning fire. The other half was all sunshine and Summer vibes, which was perfect for alfresco dining and countryside walks.
KINSBROOK VINEYARD
Good to Know
There are no power plugs in the new cabins (only a USB charging cord) so bring spare batteries for your camera
Towels, bedding, tea, coffee, cooking basics and TP are provided
Plan to bring your own food, there is a gas cook top and small bar fridge but definitely no room service or deliveroo
Pre-plan your visits to any pubs before you lock away your phones, as most only serve food during particular times
Don't forget your sunscreen and bug spray if you're visiting in summer
Getting there
The cabins are a 30minute drive from Brighton or 2hours from central London
The nearest train stations are Billinghurst or Pulborough , Unplugged can suggest local taxi companies for the short ride between station and site
We were invited guests of Unplugged but as always our thoughts and opinions are own
