POSTCARDS FROM: THE LAKE DISTRICT

The September Chronicles - Ullswater, The Lake District

At the end of September we headed north to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary in the stunning Lake District- specifically Ullswater. Located in the north east of the national park, we reached our home for the next 3 nights by local bus, after taking the train from Euston to Penrith early on a Saturday morning.

Pronounced “ohles-water” and frequently referred as the most beautiful lake in England, this stunning stretch of water is the 2nd largest in the Lake District, measuring over 14 km long (9miles). It also claims to be the birthplace of the sticky toffee pudding! Simon’s favourite dessert.
We spent a very relaxing long weekend hiking the fells, sailing on the water and indulging in one of our favourite picnics to date (not to mention eating plenty of sticky toffee pudding). We already know that Cumbria will be calling our names again in the near future, but in the mean time here are some post cards from our trip.

While we would definitely recommend our Hotel Macdonald Leeming House (above) for a romantic off the grid break. If you are planning a visit to Ullswater without a car and want to hike the fells or sail on the Steamer boats, then we highly suggest basing yourself in Glenridding. Its one the largest of the villages around the lake and offers a few different accommodation choices as well as a pub and some local shops - something sadly lacking in the area where we stayed.
Its also the perfect spot to start plenty of the nearby walks and has a dock for the Ullswater Steamers.

We’d love to hear ideas on where we should visit on our next trip to the Lake District, so please email us or share in the comments below if you have any recommendations.
