A TREEHOUSE BABYMOON IN THE COTSWOLDS

We were invited guests of Sand and Stone Escapes, but as always our thoughts and opinions are our own

IN ONE LINE

A luxury Treehouse hideaway in a quiet corner of the Gloucestershire countryside.

SETTING THE SCENE

With the countdown to the twin’s arrival officially on - and a Doctor imposed restriction on flying in place - we recently set out to find a relaxing babymoon spot somewhere close to London but that felt a million miles away. And The Treehouse from Sand & Stone Escapes really ticked all the boxes.
After having zoomed out to Kemble station on an afternoon train from Paddington, our awaiting taxi wound it’s way beyond charming Cotswold villages & out into a hidden valley of the Gloucestershire Countryside. We were welcomed to our treetop getaway by a Summer storm and stepping through the hand carved oak door to the sound of rain drops hitting the roof put us into “relax mode” immediately. 3 nights of slow countryside living ensued …

THE INTERIORS

Owners Bob and Annabel (who live on site but are tucked away enough that your stay feels private) have done a wonderful job crafting a bolthole that manages to perfectly balance the feeling of a country cabin with all the mod-cons you could want for a relaxing weekend away. The dark wooden interiors are cosiness personified and the views of the surrounding valley will immediately calm you. The Treehouse really excels at drawing the outside in, with bifold doors in both the Lounge and bathroom able to open the cabin up, which means no matter the weather you get to enjoy being amongst the trees with just birds for company.
And despite being immersed in nature, this definitely isn’t a rustic experience. The wifi is strong, the hot water is plentiful and French linen bedding, along with reliable heating, a fancy lighting control system and bluetooth speakers throughout make for a surprisingly luxurious stay.

THE AREA

The cabin sits on a private 25 acre estate and comes complete with a little pond and jetty so there’s plenty of room to stretch your legs and explore. If you’re anything like us, you’ll be hard pressed to drag yourself away from the treehouse and its grounds but if you do there’s lots of lovely Cotswolds Villages within a short drive. You’ll also recieve a welcome pack which includes suggestions for nearby restaurants, experiences and walks. For dinner one night we made the easy 20minute walk out to the local pub Hunter’s Hall Inn at Kinsgcote and would recommend it for its big portions but reasonable prices.

THE HIGHS & LOWS

H: We really loved the secluded and cosy feel of the treehouse mixed with the high spec interiors. To be so immersed in nature but not have to rough it at all; it really was the best of both worlds.
L:
We struggled to think of many things to mention here! The only change we’d make is having a toilet on the second floor as navigating the spiral staircase in the middle of the night could be tricky. Also worth mentioning that the bedroom doesn’t haven’t blinds, face masks are provided but be prepared for an early wake up call.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • A lovely welcome hamper is provided with eggs, bread and milk

  • Theres a 3 night minimum which we thought was a perfect amount (although we would have happily stayed longer)

  • Fluffy towels, robes and Bamford toiletries are supplied but BYO slippers for wandering around on the wooden floors in Winter

  • The staircase to the bedroom is quite a steep spiral and could be unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues

  • No children or babies can stay, but one small dog can be invited along for a fee

  • Check-in is from between 4pm and 11pm, and check-out is by 10am

  • There was a ‘Coach House’ behind The Treehouse that can also be hired out (we’re told this is limited to 2 people too) no one was staying while we were there so we can’t comment on that experience but otherwise the cabin felt really private.

GETTING THERE

The Treehouse is close to the Village of Tetbury and can be reached from London in about a 3hour drive.

Alternatively, if you’re travelling without a car, direct trains run from Paddington to either Kemble or Chippenham Stations in around an hour. From there its a 25 or 40minute taxi ride respectively. As with most places in the Cotswolds, booking your taxi ahead is recommended. We used Mark from Pink Cabs.
